1. Find the unique characteristic about your church and translate it into a benefit.
The reasons people currently come to your church should give you a clue as to the unique characteristic of your church. Something about your church must be inherently unique or you would be just like the other churches in your community and people can go to any one of them and have their spiritual needs met. Always remember that people respond to benefits, not features.

People do not buy cars, people buy a smooth ride, a status symbol, or a more reliable form of transportation than they currently have. Your visitors won’t respond to: Please join us this Sunday for our worship service. They will respond to: Join us Sunday as we look at 7 ways to have a happier, healthier marriage.

Find the major benefit of your church and write it down. It should come directly from the inherently unique feature. For instance: A church for Imperfect People, A church for the young at heart, a place where lives are changed.

2. Capture peoples attention.
People do not pay attention to advertising. They pay attention what is of interest to them. Your church wouldn’t send out a mailer with a series that talks about improving your marriage to singles would it? If you are going to use stock photography, use pictures of people that look like the people in your church. Develop the best looking, most attention getting card you can, with the best headline.

People’s mailboxes are full of mail every day. Set yourself apart from all the rest.

3. Action Steps.
In today’s society people want everything right now. Even though it might have taken 7 years to mess up their marriage they want to fix it in 4 easy steps. Use sub headlines to convey action steps people can take to reach their desired goal. “Find your purpose in 40 days...”
