Obtaining Authorization For Your Church To Mail At Nonprofit Rates
Just because you were granted nonprofit status from the IRS does NOT mean you have been granted nonprofit mailing status from the US Postal System. You must apply for this status.
The US Postal system has special rates available for churches and other nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit postage rates are considerably lower than regular rates, but not everyone can qualify. If you currently have a nonprofit postage permit for your church then you were already authorized as far as the post office is concerned. However, if you have not mailed under your permit in the last 2 years, you have lost your nonprofit status, and will need to apply for it again.
If you do not already have authorization or a current active nonprofit bulk mail permit, you must apply for permission by the US Postal System to mail at Nonprofit rates.
You will need to download USPS form 3624 (THIS FORM DOES NOT REQUIRE A PERMIT APPLICATION FEE) from the link below. Follow the instructions and take to the nearest Post Office.
